With several new DC movies coming out this year, including: Matt Reeves’s “The Batman”, “The Flash” (starring Ezra Miller, with Michael Keaton returning as Batman), “Black Adam” (starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson), “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, and “Batgirl” (plus James Gunn’s “Peacemaker” on HBO Max and an upcoming “Green Lantern Corps” series), as well as next year’s “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”, I thought I’d take a look back and *try* to rank my favorite DC movies so far…

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most recognizable franchises, alongside Super Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, and Kirby. It’s a franchise that’s been going strong for over 35 years and has 27 games to show for it. If you’re new to the series, it can be a little intimidating on where to start, especially when you consider how wonky the timeline is. So I’ve narrowed down a list of the 10 most essential Zelda games and ranked them to the best of my ability! While I’m mostly covering the main series of games, and primarily those released on Nintendo’s home consoles, I would first like to give a quick shoutout to a few honorable mentions: The “Hyrule Warrior” games (Wii U / DS, Switch), The Minish Cap (Game Boy Advance), Four Swords (Game Cube), Phantom Hourglass (DS), A Link Between Worlds (3DS), The Oracle of Ages/Seasons (Game Boy Color), and last but definitely not least: Link’s Crossbow (Wii)!
The age old questions of comic fans: Batman or Superman? Spider-Man or Wolverine? The debates about the best heroes are endless. We tried to make a top 10 list, but that was just too hard. So we tried a top 25, but that quickly became a top 50… you get the idea. So we were able to ‘narrow’ it down to an even 100. Odds are you will vehemently disagree with who did or did not make the list, or just the order that we placed them. But, hey, it’s our list.
(Honorable mentions to Beta Ray Bill, USAgent, Martian Manhunter, Kid Flash, Hercules, The Frenchman and the Female (the Boys), Abe Sapien, Spider-Man 2099, Static Shock, Nite Owl, Guy Gardner, Booster Gold, Spawn, Atom Eve, Mary Marvel, and a hell of a lot more. So many more we could- and may- do another whole 100 list!)

The original “Cowboy Bebop” from 1998, is often considered one of the best (not for kids) anime of the 80’s and 90’s, along with movies like “Akira” and “Ghost in the Shell”. The series follows a group of space-faring bounty hunters: Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, and Faye Valentine as a makeshift family trying to survive in an unforgiving solar system, while they each wrestle with the demons of their pasts. It became an overnight cult phenomenon the moment it premiered in the US on Adult Swim in late 2001, and may have even helped to inspire Joss Whedon’s “Firefly” in 2005.
Unlike a lot of popular anime series that go on for hundreds of episodes with dozens of filler episodes a season with no end in sight, Bebop doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, in fact it gives us something that we rarely get these days from so many big budget blockbusters: an actual ending. With only 26 episodes, a movie – set during the middle of the show, a couple Play Station video games (only released in Japan), and a few manga volumes, this is a series that really leaves you wanting more, and perhaps that’s one of the factors that makes it so special.
Continue readingWhile comic books and animation seem to go hand in hand, for some reason there are so, so many more bad animated shows based on comics than there are good. Maybe because so many are aimed at children, or maybe there are so many variables that come with even getting a show off the ground, let alone having and audience to keep it around and also having the right people to keep elevating the material, and ALSO having a studio that has faith in the production team and can stay out of the way.
For every successful show, there’s a Savage Dragon, WildC.A.T.S., or multiple failed adaptations of the likes of Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, or the Avengers. But when all of the right circumstances come together, sometimes you get something special. While a lot of how ‘good’ a show is can come down to personal taste and preferences, below are 10 animated shows based on comics that, regardless of order, everyone can agree are among the best!

With the release of “MORTAL KOMBAT” (2021) – now on Blu Ray and 4K and an all new animated movie (“Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms” – debuting on August 31st), we figured what better way to prep than *another* deep dive into the rich mythology and ever-evolving backstories of this epic video game franchise?
In Round 1, we covered the fighters from the original game (Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Goro, and Kano). For Round 2, we broke down the roster introduced in MKII (Shang Tsung, Jax, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Reptile, Kung Lao, and Shao Kahn). Then in Round 3, we delved into some of the fighters introduced in MK3 and MK: Deadly Alliance, while Round 4 focused on some of the newer characters from Mortal Kombat X and MK11. In our “Final Round” we took a look at basically everyone else that we couldn’t fit into the first four.
In this *Bonus Round* we’re covering all the third-party characters that have appeared in the MK franchise! (Not including DC vs Mortal Kombat)
