2021’s “DUNE“ (directed by Denis Villeneuve) is in no uncertain terms a cinematic masterpiece. It succeeds where the 1984 David Lynch film falters, and it manages to capture the essence of Frank Herbert’s Nebula award-winning sci-fi epic, a book that until now was considered ‘unadaptable’. This movie pushes the genre forward for film in much the same way the original novel did nearly 60 years ago!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been going strong for over a decade, and has already become the biggest, most-expansive franchise in movie history! First starting in 2008, with Jon Favreau’s “Iron Man”, starring Robert Downey Jr., whose story eventually culminated with 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” – the 22nd movie in the series. All of which was orchestrated behind the scenes by the one and only Kevin Feige!
The MCU continues with ‘the Multiverse Saga’ (including several new shows now streaming on Disney+). Most of these titles are intrinsically tied to the overarching narrative of the MCU as a whole, so where does everything fit in? If you’re not already a hardcore fan (like us), it can probably feel like A LOT to catch up on, so if you want to dive in and follow along in (mostly?) chronological order, the following is a *quick* guide to the MCU Timeline (so far), from Captain America: The First Avenger to Avengers: Secret Wars… probably!

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is the upcoming sequel to the somewhat divisive 2016 film simply titled Suicide Squad. Acclaimed Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is taking a very different approach this time around, though. The movie boasts an even bigger cast of random, throwaway characters from the DC Comics universe with the tagline “Don’t get too attached.”
In Part 1, we did a rundown of every confirmed character from the new movie, this time we’re taking a look back at some of the Suicide Squad’s heroic villains/villainous heroes that didn’t make the cut…

Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Scott Pilgrim vs the Universe” is the fifth volume of the Scott Pilgrim and like the previous one, has very little in common with the film adaptation. The book follows up on the happy ending of Vol 4 where it seems as though Scott and Ramona are finally overcoming their pasts. Scott has vanquished the first four members in the League of Evil Exes, but this time he’ll have to contend with the Katayanagi Twins! But first, the book randomly opens with Scott’s 24th birthday with a super anime inspired overreaction to being called old and then a hilarious panel of him nomming on some chocolate cake.

So I was re-watching “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall” recently (as you do) and it occurred to me that this whole run (the Daniel Craig Bond films specifically) might actually represent the Five Stages of Grief!?
At first, I shrugged it off as ridiculous, but then I started to notice things. For starters, there’s now *5 films* with the new one (“No Time to Die” which was delayed until October, 2021) – which is set to be Craig’s last. Something that sets these new films apart from the first 20 Bond movies, is that each one is tied together by an overarching narrative. What’s more is that the first movie was an origin story and the new one appears to be the character’s swan song before they inevitably reboot the franchise once again. Now I should point out that no one involved with the franchise has never come out and publicly said that this is what they intended all along, this is just my personal head cannon after watching and re-watching these movies dozens of times.

With the release of “MORTAL KOMBAT” (2021) – now on Blu Ray and 4K and an all new animated movie (“Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms” – debuting on August 31st), we figured what better way to prep than *another* deep dive into the rich mythology and ever-evolving backstories of this epic video game franchise?
In Round 1, we covered the fighters from the original game (Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Goro, and Kano). For Round 2, we broke down the roster introduced in MKII (Shang Tsung, Jax, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Reptile, Kung Lao, and Shao Kahn). Then in Round 3, we delved into some of the fighters introduced in MK3 and MK: Deadly Alliance, while Round 4 focused on some of the newer characters from Mortal Kombat X and MK11. In our “Final Round” we took a look at basically everyone else that we couldn’t fit into the first four.
In this *Bonus Round* we’re covering all the third-party characters that have appeared in the MK franchise! (Not including DC vs Mortal Kombat)

As I said in my review of Episode One, “LOKI” has been a ‘wild, off-the-rails, jaunt through time’ – and with so many crazy twists and turns, it’s a rollercoaster that’s never once slowed down since then! Throughout the show we’ve followed a Loki variant (Tom Hiddleston), after the time-traveling events of “Avengers: Endgame”, go from being an Asgardian supervillain to an introspective Alice through the looking glass.
Through a series of random Douglas Adams inspired shenanigans with Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) of the TVA (Temporal Variance Authority), Loki encountered a female variant of himself in the form of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) who he then joined on a quest to uncover the identities of the Time Keepers who turned out to be nothing more than robotic puppets! Together, the two Lokis eventually found themselves in a realm at the end of time known as the Void, where all manner of Lokis have been discarded amongst the remnants of countless erased timelines, including Kid Loki, President Loki, and Gator Loki. With the valiant sacrifice of an older Loki, Sylvie and Loki are able to combine their powers and enchant the hangry cloud monster known as Alioth, revealing a portal to… somewhere?
It’s all lead to this…
