Issue 27: “BLACK ADAM” Review!
“I’m no hero…” – Black Adam
Erik and Chris got together to see the latest DC movie, “Black Adam”, and decided to record a quick impromptu episode on their initial thoughts of the film, where they think the DCEU could be heading next, how the movie compares to the JSA / Black Adam comics, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, how Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson fills in the iconic role of Teth-Adam himself, and of course that reveal in the post-credits scene… (Spoilers Ahead!)
Check out our blog at ComicZombie.net for more, including Erik’s recent reviews of Frank Miller’s Sin City graphic novels!

“THAT YELLOW BASTARD”
This has got to be one of the most disturbing tales in the entire series…
Originally released as a six-part mini-series, and inspired by the “Dirty Harry” movies, Frank Miller’s fourth story arc in the “Sin City” saga is “That Yellow Bastard”. While the book is still in black and white, this one’s notable as being the first in the series to include color in it’s dark and grimy pages: the Yellow bastard himself is – you guessed it – yellow. And not just any yellow, it’s a gross, sickly, yellow. And when he shows up, it’s jarring as all hell, something’s just not right about him.

“Stay smart. Stay cool. It’s time to prove to you’re friends that you’re worth a damn. Sometimes that means dying. Sometimes it means killing a whole lot of people.” – Dwight McCarthy
“THE BIG FAT KILL”
Volume 3 might be my favorite of the Sin City graphic novels so far! Frank Miller’s “The Big Fat Kill” continues the story of Dwight McCarthy (from “A Dame to Kill For”), as he’s once again pulled into treacherous game of life and death. This one has some of my absolute favorite panels, lines, and character moments in the entire series.

“Do us both a favor and stay still long enough for me to blow your brains out.” – Ava Lord
“A DAME TO KILL FOR”
Frank Miller’s “Sin City” comics continued in 1993 with “A Dame to Kill For”, a mystery featuring a private investigator, Dwight McCarthy, who becomes ensnared in a plot involving his ex-fiancé, Ava Lord. The story takes place parallel to “The Hard Goodbye” and even includes appearances by Marv!
“SIN CITY: THE HARD GOODBYE” (VOL 1) – Revisited
“Well, I’m gonna find that son of a bitch that killed you, and I’m gonna give him the hard goodbye. Walk down the right back alley in Sin City, and you can find anything.” – Marv
After having revisited all six volumes of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s “Scott Pilgrim” graphic novels, I decided to jump back into another one of my all time favorite ‘indie’ comic book series: Frank Miller’s “Sin City”!
Frank Miller’s Sin City
“Sin City” is a neo-noir anthology series. It’s basically Frank Miller’s ode to the works of the great pulp crime novels and detective yarns. Sin City aggressively leans into the tropes of the entire film noir genre, but it’s also wholly unique in it’s style and storytelling, thanks entirely to the incredible talent of writer/artist Frank Miller. It’s easily one of the most iconic works of Miller’s career, a career filled to the brim with some of the greatest graphic novels of the era: “300”, “The Dark Knight Returns”, and “Daredevil: Born Again” just to name a few.
The Curious Case of D.B. Cooper: The FBI’s Greatest Unsolved Mystery (Epik Fails of History)
The ‘D.B. Cooper’ Incident: November 24th, 1971
“D.B. Cooper” is easily one of the most confounding mysteries of the 20th century. The mysterious hijacker who got away with $200,000 has proven to be just as elusive as Big Foot or the Loch Ness Monster. So much so that after 45 years, the FBI finally closed the door on the case back in 2016! If the freaking Federal Bureau of Investigation gives up, you know it’s probably not getting solved by some random podcaster in his basement. Even Sherlock Holmes himself would have had trouble with this one…

Issue 26: Marvel SDCC 2022 News! / DC Cancellations?!
“It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel a Latina Batgirl movie.” – Kevin Smith
Erik and Chris return to discuss the latest geek news – with ALL of Kevin Feige’s Marvel Phase 5 *and* 6 announcements from this year’s San Diego Comic Con 2022! Meanwhile, the new head of Warner Bros decided to cancel not only the (nearly completed) “Batgirl” movie, starring Leslie Grace (and Michael Keaton!), but several other DC projects from the CW and HBO Max (including Kevin Smith’s work on “Strange Adventures” an animated anthology which honestly sounded cool as hell) all in an apparent attempt to save $3 billion with a tax loophole, but the move has since apparently backfired causing them to lose $20 billion after pissing off the entire internet, because of course it did. So you know, the usual.
Note: In this episode we accidentally referred to Ezra Miller as ‘he’ instead of ‘they’, but mean no disrespect the trans community, just an honest slip up.
