MORTAL KOMBAT: Who’s who? (Final Round)

Reblogged from Geek to Geek Media!

With the release of “MORTAL KOMBAT” (2021) – coming to Blu Ray on July 13th and an all new animated movie (“Mortal Kombat: Battle of the Realms” – debuting on August 31st), we figured what better way to prep than *another* deep dive into the rich mythology and ever-evolving backstories of this epic video game franchise?

In Round 1, we covered the fighters from the original game (Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Raiden, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Goro, and Kano). For Round 2, we broke down the roster introduced in MKII (Shang Tsung, Jax, Kitana, Mileena, Baraka, Reptile, Kung Lao, and Shao Kahn). Then in Round 3, we delved into some of the fighters introduced in MK3 and MK: Deadly Alliance, while Round 4 focused on some of the newer characters from Mortal Kombat X and MK11.

For this “Final Round” in our epic breakdown, we’re doing a quick rundown of some of the lesser known (and in some cases forgettable) characters that didn’t quite make the cut for Rounds 1-4, for better or worse, basically everyone else…

“LOKI” Episode Five – Recap

Check out my last recap here!

EPISODE FIVE: “JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY”

We start where we left off with Loki waking up in “The Void”, a realm at the end of time riddled with all the “pruned” variants and remnants of forgotten timelines. Loki is approached by “the Council of Lokis” – made up of 4 Loki variants: Classic Loki (an older variant from the future played by Richard E. Grant), Kid Loki, “Boastful Loki” (an African American variant with what looks like an alternate version of Mjolnir?), and last by not least, Gator Loki… who is just an alligator with Loki horns?!

“LOKI” Episode One – Review

Marvel’s new “LOKI” series is a wild, off-the-rails, jaunt through time – once again starring Tom Hiddleston as the Asgardian Trickster God himself. Following this first episode and the success of “Wandavision” and “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier”, I think it’s safe to say that the MCU is *still* going strong on Disney+!

LOKI 101

For those who somehow don’t already know, Loki is a supervillain in the pages of Marvel comics (first appearing in ‘Journey Into Mystery’ #85, 1962), loosely based on the Norse deity of the same name, he’s the adopted son of Odin, and brother to his greatest adversary, Thor – the God of Thunder. He was also the first villain to fight the Avengers in “The Avengers” #1 in 1963! In the comics, like in Norse Mythology, Loki has taken on a number of forms throughout the years, including a female persona. While Loki has an array of powers, including shape-shifting and conjuring illusions, his most cunning weapon is his mind and his innate ability to persuade and manipulate others for his own ends.

MORTAL KOMBAT: Who’s who? (Round 4)

Reblogged from Geek to Geek Media!

With the release of “MORTAL KOMBAT” (2021) now in theaters and on HBO Max, we figured what better way to prep than to do a deep dive into the rich mythology and ever-evolving backstories of this epic video game franchise? (Check out Rounds One, Two, and Three here!)

In 2011, the 9th game in the series, simply titled “Mortal Kombat” was a soft-reboot to the franchise, involving an alternate timeline created by Raiden to avert catastrophe. It’s sequel, “Mortal Kombat X” jumped ahead 20 years and introduced a whole new generation of fighters, while “Mortal Kombat 11” brought back some fan favorites from the franchise’s history with an epic time bending story.

“INVINCIBLE” Episode 6 Recap (Spoilers)

Check out my previous recap here!

Episode 6 : “You Look Kinda Dead”

This one’s a pretty by the numbers episode with a dose of pretty serious personal stakes. It’s yet another one that takes a comic storyline that was spread out over several issues and compresses it into one. The ‘Reanimen’ first appeared in Issue 6, whereas their creator didn’t officially show up until Issue 20. While I do enjoy the slow burn of the comics with all the mystery, revelations and build up, for this show it totally makes sense to not do that for pacing.

MORTAL KOMBAT: Who’s who? (Round 2)

Reblogged from Geek to Geek Media!

With the upcoming release of “MORTAL KOMBAT” (2021) in theaters and on HBO Max on Friday, April 23rd, we figured what better way to prep than to do a deep dive into the rich mythology and ever-evolving backstories of this epic video game franchise? (Click here for Part One!)

Mortal Kombat II (1993) is often considered by many old school fans as the best game in the series, it built on the first game in a number of ways: increased the roster, added several new characters, deepened the story, upped the blood, and doubled down on the fatalities. Following Liu Kang’s victory in Shang Tsung’s tournament, Shao Kahn hosts a second tournament in Outworld with plans to invade Earth should Raiden’s warriors fail. It was a smash hit at the time, but also caused quite the controversy, eventually leading to the creation of the ratings system. The wave of popularity that followed soon lead to the first “Mortal Kombat” feature film in 1995 and a not-so-great sequel, “Mortal Kombat: Annihilation” in 1997.
